Deacon Ministry Groups
LEADERSHIP MINISTRY
The Leadership Ministry Team is made up of the
moderator, vice-moderator/secretary, and treasurer.
The following ministries are the responsibility of
each team member:
Third Year:
1. Schedules and moderates meetings
2. Delegates the ministry of the deacons
3. Ministers to the deacons
4. Furnishes monthly newsletter article about deacon happenings
or deacon members.
5. Prepares Agenda
Second Year:
1. Takes minutes of the deacons’ meetings
2. Turns in minutes to the church office to be copied
for the deacon’s meeting and session meeting
3. Handles correspondence
4. Conducts the business of the moderator in his/her
absence
5. Annual report of the deacons at the end of the
program year
6. Completes ministry assigned by the moderator
7. Succeeds moderator
First Year:
1. Reports financial records from the church office
to the deacons
2. Ministers to the deacons
3. Completes ministry as assigned by the moderator
4. Furnishes to the monthly church newsletter an
article featuring a deacon member
5. Succeeds vice-moderator/secretary
SACRAMENTAL MINISTRY TEAM
This ministry team is responsible for the preparation
of the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Holy
Baptism. Ministry responsibilities include:
1. Third year deacon serves as team leader
2. Coordinates the provision and setting up of elements for
serving communion as well as for Holy Baptism,
plus clean up following
3. Coordinates for all locations such as the
sanctuary, retirement residences, home bound, or
occasional services (such as Presbytery meetings
in La Grande)
HOSPITALITY MINISTRY TEAM
This ministry team is responsible for providing
outreach into the congregation so people know that
we love them and care about them. Ministry
responsibilities include:
1. Third year deacon serves as team leader
2. Coordination of the Flocks program: updates, ideas,
resources
3. Coordinates visitation, particularly of the homebound and
those experiencing crisis
4. Maintains and updates publications and information on
church welcome table(s).
5. Coordinate hosts for Fellowship Time following
worship, including recruiting, scheduling, and
providing information and resources
REMEMBRANCE MINISTRY TEAM
This ministry team ministers to families and
individuals during times of grief or crisis and
provides for special meals or needs in the life of the
congregation. Responsibilities include:
1. Third year deacon serves as team leader
2. Coordinate funeral receptions
3. Provide flowers for special occasions, including a
rose to honor a family in a birth (red rose) or a death
(white rose).
PRAYER SUPPORT
This ministry involves many but is coordinated by a
point person. Ministry responsibilities include:
1. Prayer chain supervision, expansion, updating
2. Personal and daily prayer support
3. Keep Pastor informed about prayer chain requests
